Livable Places, Open Spaces

Transit centers and accompanying mixed use development around them can be a key to creating vibrant town centers and keeping our region livable over the long term.

NCTF is working to encourage private sector partnerships in improving transit infrastructure, such as high quality transit centers in each community in the Roaring Fork Valley, and user-friendly transit stops throughout the system. Although transit oriented development often occurs around fixed guideway (rail) systems, the Roaring Fork Valley has a perfect environment for making transit oriented development a successful component of an enhanced bus system. By focusing affordable housing around transit our region can solve several challenges at once.

The transportation sector contributes about a 1/3 of all climate emissions nationwide. In western states transportation is responsible for about half of all climate emissions. NCTF has a three-pronged approach to reducing climate emissions from the transportation sector.

1. Expand our options: create enticing alternatives to cars
2. Green the Fleet: reduce energy intensity of all vehicles used
3. Cleaner Fuels: reduce carbon intensity of fuel

What is Biodiesel?

Biodiesel is a clean burning alternative fuel, produced from domestic, renewable resources. Biodiesel contains no petroleum, but it can be blended at any level with petroleum diesel to create a biodiesel blend. It can be used in compression-ignition (diesel) engines with little or no modifications.

Biodiesel has been proven to reduce certain tail-pipe emissions, it is nontoxic, biodegradable, and totally renewable.
